I wonder why they removed the KIPS.  It mentions that in the Special Setup section of the specs.  That thing was probably insanely fast.

Not sure if this is the true reason, but I remember racing my '84 125, it had no KIPS system, and that was one insanely fast engine bone stock as far as power, than in '85 Kawi introduced the KIPS as is was a terd for hp, it took Kawi a few years to dial in the high end hp again. I bought an '88, and the power was awesome.

It was definately done to get the power into the mid/top rpm. The original motor in that trike is a non-powervalved 250. I have an 85 Tecate and the motor is nothing short of brutal in the power delivery aspect, like a lightswitch. Its either on or off..




*Also that looks like an 87 motor because its black.*
