2005 kx250
« on: February 16, 2007, 02:54:37 PM »
I am working on a friend of mine's bike and it is a 2005 kx250. He took the motor out of the frame to paint the frame. He reinstalled motor and crossed the gray and green plugs. Any ideas as to what keeps it from firing? Does the plugs color code together or are they supposed to be crossed over? I have no service manuals on bike because it is not mine. Thanks for any suggestions

Where do the gray and green plugs originate from and where did he plug them in?

Where are these wires?  I just bought one a week ago, and I will take a look at mine.

he crossed them up green to gray.  they both will hook to each other but diffrent wires. one goes in the top of carb. and the other one ill have to check tomorrow and post it i just hope he didnt blow the cdi box. i found out todayafer he pluged them up he kicked on it trying to get it to fire for about an hour. so now im thinking that the cdi is gone out  thanks for all  your help

The thing on the top of the carb is most likely the TPS (throttle position sensor).  It sounds like you might have hooked up the 2 wires from the crank sensor wrongly.  Hopefully it has not damaged anything.   You bike does not have a voltage regulator - voltage from the magnetor goes straight to the coil.  Sorry not a KX250 expert so can't advise much further. Cam.

I didn't see the voltage regulator listed for a 2005 kx250. A voltage regulator is not a ignition componet. Elec. componet used for charging systems, or even some lighting kits require a regulator. Some voltage regulators are also rectifiers which allows them to change AC current to DC currecnt.

I think at this point your friend needs to order a service manual. Until then I would stop guessing at the wire connects, you can possibly damage some of the componets.

If your friend does not want to work on his own bike, would he at least consider buying the service manual so you can work on it properly??

There is a voltage regulator for the powerjet carb.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.
