What other year rear rim will work on my 1986 kx500?
chrisorbics:
Hi I need to replace my cracked rear rim on my 1986 kawasaki kx500. I read somewhere that they had a lot of problems with the rims that year. I am looking for a use rear rim but I keep finding rims for new bikes. Will a kx250 rim work? If so what years? I found a 1993 kx500 rim but I do not know if it will work. Does anybody know?
demographic:
Make sure its got the same number of holes and the right size (well some folk prefer 18" rims for offroad racing cos the tyre sidewall provides more give and is less prone to pinch flats that the 19s) but therse not much to it.
It can even be off another make of bike.

What do you mean by the same number of bolts? Sprocket bolts or disk barake bolts? So one on ebay advertised a kx125 rim and said it world work on a 1990 and newer kx500. I think they were implying that the hub was different? I am confused. I don't want to pay good money for a rim that I can't use. Anymore comments would be great.
blackkx:
If you are planning on buying a rim and hub assembly , i would stick to finding a 86-87 kx 500 rim , bike bandit is showing that those 2 years shared the same hub , axle , rim , but the newer 500s take a diff part number . If you plan on buying just a rim the "holes" that demographic are talking about are the spoke holes have to be the same amount on the hub and the rim minus the valvestem hole and the rim lock hole . either wat ebay is the place to be looking .

Spoke holes :-)
Like you get in the rim, some bikes have 32, some 36 and the 250 Maico I used to own had 40.
I think that KX500s have 36 but its best to check that out cos I am not sure and can't be bothered to ratch out a torch and go out to the shed to find out
