Spark plug collar/spacer

Hi everyone.  I've just started work on a 1986 kx500 engine and straight away I'm confused. The spark plug has a collar/spacer underneath it about 8mm tall. It doesn't look factory but without it the plug protrudes all that 8mm out the head into the combustion chamber. Is this normal ?

Not normal ,wrong plug.

Bigpants:
Its a b8es with about 20mm threaded portion.

KXDINO:
check what kawi says to use for that model.
