My 87 uses a single ring piston but I am using the newer two ring piston for 88-04 500's. Same piston kawasaki just added the second ring.

You guys are great! Thanks for the help. I still want some new pistons but, Ill take one of the old ones and try to match them up with a new style.
  There is still a bounty for them.

Yep one ring is good for racing = less drag but not for ring seal longevity
