Kx250 1994 gear oil recommendations?
« on: November 02, 2019, 12:50:12 AM »
Hello guys I am aware of the question of what gear oil to use is a popular thread, however I haven’t got a clear answer in which it go by, I have a kx250 1994 I’m replacing the clutch and cable so wasted to do the oil at the same time I’ve previously used putoline 10w40 4 stroke gear oil as recommended by putoline oil but that Was rather grabby in gears and the odd occasions miss coming out of 1st gear, I understand atf type f is popular , my issue is that no local motor factors stock the oil they recommend dextron 3. Woukd you guys recommend using dextron 3 or should I source the atf type f ?? Or any other oil suggestions? Thanks for your time and apologise about yet another oil thread! 😂

I have used gear and atf oils , and would stick with gear oil , especially for k5 as gear parts are drying up , if you want a smoother and easier changing gearbox you need to pull apart and polish parts that slide on each other which helps greatly , less friction the better, if you have a grabby clutch which most kx250 have , drill more holes in the inner clutch basket which helps greatly on kx250 ,s .I have done this mods on these models for years and are better for it. doesnt matter what oil you use it will never improve the tranny as much as the mods listed here to do .
