Decompression device by Larry Wiechman
umberto:
As soon as I get my 250 together, I am sending Goliath's head over to Larry. I've only been talking about it for nearly three years now. :-D
Larry Wiechman:
I'll be on vacation the first two weeks of July.
My turn to ride!
mazderati:
I'm installing Larry's modified head and have two questions.
1. Is there a sequence for torquing the cylinder head bolts? The service manual specifies 18 ft lbs on the bolts but no sequence.
2. Do you use any type of sealant or antiseize on the cylinder head studs?
Thanks in advance.
sandblaster:
I like to use thread locker on the stud where the threads go into the head.
Then coat the exposed stud with anti-seize.
I use a basic star pattern.
I hand tighten all the nuts.
Then go 6lb torque star pattern, then, 13lb, then 19lb.
After I hit 19 on all the nuts, I go back and hit them again just to be safe.
After about a hour of riding I go back and hit the nuts again.
From there you should be good to go.
mazderati:
^ Seems reasonable. Many thanks.
