Bottom end flush?
(1/1)
afritts4u:
I have my top end off, being replated. I noticed some burnt on oil on the crank and rod. Had a lot of blow by due to cracked intake bridge in cylinder.
Is it advised to use water or any other solvent to flush out the bottom end while I have easy acess. Of course to prevent rust ext I would need to thouryly dry and seal before I Put it back together and reseal the engine. As long as I dont use too much pressure it seems like a good opportunity to get any gunk out of the crank area before it all goes back together???
Any advice tips on this??

AF,
I would say don't flush. You risk washing and crud into the bearings. What I do is to take small rags dipped in solvent and clip them to a long pair of hospital type forceps (the kind you take fishhooks out with), then reach in and wipe around. It is a slow process but with some patience you can do a good job. Hope this helps. Cam.
