Hi all

Daniel77:
So i joined to get some info. And maybe make some new freinds lol
Ive ridden bikes all my life. And i just turned 39 ugh, just bought my second
kx5 Is an 89, had a bunch of new parts on it but didnt run
It was relatively cheap though so. But Its always bad when a new
Bike comes with 2 big boxes of parts :)
It has new rims and spokes (excel) new tires (kenda washougal sticky?Lol)
new chain and sprockets 14 front 50 rear sunstar aluminum
Relatively new plastics old tank but not too bad a shape
New brake pads and rotor front. New master cylinder and pads rear
80w stator and a new wiesco 86mm piston and rings
Fmf gnarly pipe and powecore silencer
Boysen super bowl and reeds on a stock cage? 180 main jet not sure on the pilot
Oh and a k&n air filter
Sorry for all the info. But i always ask if someone asks me a ?
So like i said it wouldnt start.  Long story short. 70 psi compression test.
The reeds are a little warped just on the edges. Maybe .002".
But that shouldnt effect compression yes? Because the exh ports are above the intake
And they are always open yes? I did a squish test before pulling the head it read .110"
That seems like a lot lol.  So i pulled the head and the very top edge of the cylinder has
What looks like rust pitting. These were electro plated origanally?  Does that rust? Did some
Dum dum hone it when they shouldnt have? Oh and yea the cylinder nuts were totaly loooooose. So. I pulled the jug and the intake bridges are cracked and the transfer bridges as well. Smh.
Any advice is welcome. I am a diesel mechanic with 15 years experience and have most any tool   So im not a dummy. Just know you all must know more about these things than i. :)
Thanks
Daniel

Bad... Needs at least a top end...

Correct, It won't effect your top end compression...
However, you want them to shut all the way...

.110" is a lot... How did you measure it?

Easily repaired..
Any good plating shop can fix your cracks and re-plate your cylinder.
I use Millennium Technologies as I have had great success with them.
Plan on a full rebuild, crank, top end, all new bearings, seals, gaskets, springs, bushings... And carefully inspect your shift forks and gear dogs.... The K5 loves to destroy them..
Wossner piston, Wossner crank, Cometic or OEM gaskets.
There are some excellent builds on this site.
You might want to spend a evening or two reviewing them before you start.
