High altitude jetting

(1/2) > >>

reklessj:
So I am trying to plan a trip up to Pine Lake, Utah for some fishing and riding. anyone running between 7000' &  9000' elevation and if so what jetting are you using trying to get close so I'm not spending a bunch of time tuning

reklessj:
Nobody has run at that altitude? Guess I will just have to play with it when I get there

KTX:
So please take my jetting advise as free and worth every penny.  Before I had the motor modded I ran a 99 K500 with a FMF desert pipe and pretty much stock.

Setup at 2500 ft in AZ, was 55 pilot, 175 main, stock needle on third clip with pump gas.  Air Screw 2.0 turns out from closed.  Motul 800 full synthetic at 50-1.   NGK B8 plug.  This is my winter time setup for 65-80 degree weather at 10-20 RH.

I don't ride the hot summers in AZ much because I go out of state to NM to higher elevation.  I ride a couple of places in Southern NM around the Apache Kid National Forest.  7000-8500 ft.

Its a slow day fireroad trip of 60 miles with friends so 1/4 to 1/2 throttle stuff.  I run the air screw 2.5 turns out from closed.  It does pretty well.  It will load up if I try to use 3/4 up throttle but I don't need it as its a slow day.

The first year I did this I checked my plug several times to make sure I not to rich.  It was a surprise how much the higher altitude did not effect the bike.
I carry my jetting notebook and copy down every setup so I always learn from it.

I love the fact the K5 is so forgiving.

Cheers

Right on, I am running a TMR MOTOR & FMF GNARLY DESERT @ 2700'  58 pilot and 170 main. Maybe I will take a 55 pilot and a 168 and 165 main with me. Thanks for the input KTX

KTX:
How do you like the TMR motor?
