subframe protection - chain rub

(1/2) > >>

barryadam:
Anybody have any proven solutions to protecting the aluminum subframe arm from chain rub?
On this forum somewhere, I've heard of a piece of metal added in the rub area, but have not seen any in pics or real life.
Hardened material (steel or Ti) or sacraficial piece (alum or PTFE)?  What method of attachment has worked the best?
Got any pics?

hughes:
I am going to do the same and was thingking of using star board which is a very hard plastic might find it at home depot. I was just going to cut it to fit the sub frame and just tie strap it to the frame or saftey wire it.

mikesmith:
I used aluminum angle safty wired on,loose a wire once in awhile but it has a lot of miles on it and hasnt worn through.

machine:
I used aluminum as well. I used "Shoe Goo" to stick it on.
I thought that one the alum. whore out, I'd just replace it with
another pice. It's been on there for a good 15 rides.
Now if I can just get it off???

I used die protector (tough plastic) on another KX I had.
It worked good, but kept ripping off the zipties, and wire....

barryadam:
Thanks.

I'll try either a piece of aluminum angle or Ti sheet.

I also have some old polyproplene cutting boards that I could notch on the tabelsaw...

I'll try to post a picture when completed for future reference.
