86-88 KX500 Cylinders and valves. Please set me straight.

Ok, I was asked for some parts ID help.
I have not parted out very many KX500's in this year range so please correct me if I'm wrong.

86 kx500 uses it's own valves.
They are Steel if I'm not mistaken.

87-88 kx500 uses the same exact valves as each other and I believe they are made from aluminum.

If I'm correct, the 86 valves will interchange with the 87-88 valves.

On the cylinders, I'm trying to see the differences.
The one obvious difference I see is the 86 does not have the compression reliefs machined for the kipps ports.
The 87-88 do have the reliefs machined for the kipps ports.
But, how can you visually tell the 87 from the 88?

differant head bolts on the 88
{88 has 8mm head studs to barrel not countersunk like 86/87
87 has KIPPS sticker
88 Has KIPPS sign inprinted solid
