sandblaster:
The 89-04 engines are all basically the same with only some minor differences.
So, when rebuilding your engine, look at all the engine building threads to get a idea of what all to look for.

Rougedante:
Ok will do.  I rode the bike briefly sunday when a hose started leaking tranny fluid. Is tht a vent hose or over flow?  Did u just put too much atf in or?
And what are some quick easy mods. The bike is going to be ported and new reeds. I read something about reed spacers and pipe spacers. What do those do

sandblaster:
You need to consider what you will be doing with the bike to determine which mods will suit you best.
Reeds, Pipe, Jetting, reed spacer, and muffler packing, are fairly quick and easy.
Most of the rest of the mods start requiring increasing amounts of time and money.
Besides installing all new bearings and seals, a new top end is always welcome as well as Larry's Decompression and head squish mods.
Cleaning up your bridges, transfers, and ports is a welcome addition as well.
Balancing your crank is also a must.
But, it all costs money and time.
I don't know where it originated but on Mad Max there was a sign at a wrecking yard that read "Speed is just a question of money... how fast can you go?"

Correction...

"Speed's just a question of money...how fast you wanna go?

I've known that movie word for word for 30 years....that movie is what got me to buy my KZ, and lay down 100ft strips all over town :-D

Rougedante:
Right now it's got a gnarly pipe not sure of the reeds and such. Ill start thr tear down today to get the engine out and apart to send the cyl off and order new top end and reeds...not sure of the reeds I want. It will be in a kart weighting 6-700 with rider of about 200lbs. And of course rejet once its back together to incorporate the porting
