but why you dont use your complete 99 ignition system?  the only big difference between the engines is the heavier crank-weight that came in 92 that gives more torque ..

My stator on my 99 is toast. Crank bearing went out and vibrated out the stator mounting screws, ruining it. I have tried to find one ( stator alone) in the states but no luck so far.

I don't really want to upgrade to the $500+ one ,but may be a wise choice?

Ya,thanks,  I been browsing ebay about 2 months now. And is why asking about the 88, if it will work in the 89 motor.

I either need an 89 Cdi OR a 92 and up stator to use with my flywheel and Cdi that I have. My bike/old motor is a 99. I replaced it with an 89 I bought, however it didn't come with a CDI.

I wouldn't mind upgrading, but this thing is putting me in the poorhouse already, and have only ridden it about an hour.

Have u got a clymer manual? It has wiring diagrams of the cdi stator wiring
The pre 89 flywheel/stator is alot smaller diameter than 89on

Motopunt I am still trying to figure out how the 92on had a heavier crank weight without modifing the cases, Any pictures of the heavier crank?

I think he is referring to the early years hole in the crank webs, vs the newer solid ones.

88 crank  with holes is the same weight as later cranks
still waiting to see 92on heavy crank,

if you look good into all the offers, you can assemble a complete 88 ignition system for roundabout 50,- dollar + shipping.. thats the thing, that i would prefer. so you have your bike running and could look in the future for an newer statorplate, that fits to your 99 ignition system
