pipe for 85kx500
yz1994:
thanks guys,it looks like there is a good chance it will fit,but my pipe is straighter through the mid section than what your pictures show.I saw a picture of Ken Howerton's 85 KX500 Supermoto and my pipe looks like that one.
motopunk:
this pictures posted by foxx.. are all stock bikes with stock pipes...
fmf and pro circuit, made straight pipes for better exhaust-flow. any edges or big dents can make turbulences in the inside that takes power... the best exhaust is in theory a straight exhaust without any curves dents and so on...

All aftermarket pipes are shaped different than stock...that's how/why they make power...the main reason for my post was that you "might" have to relocate the mounts and be sure you have enough clearance under the tank.Remember...you're taking a pipe and attempting to install it on the incorrect year bike...the chances of it bolting right on are slim. The reason I posted the pics was so you could see that there is a difference in shape...which will more than likely mean there's a difference in mount location.

I've got a 88-04 gnarly/powercore that I put on my 86,it fits but you need to come up with your own mount for under the tank and need to clearance it a bit where it passes by the rad,you need the 88-04 silencer as well,I took it off long ago,My PC pulls so much better mid to top, seems like it never tops out, just keeps pulling

I have an 85 and tried to use a newer pipe but the fit around the lower left side of the frame is to tight. The stock 85 pipe is straight out to the left side of the bike, and the 88 and newer pipes wrap back and there is some work that would need to be done to it in several spots to fit. I use a pro circuit pipe and a stock 2000 muffler, you have to cut about an inch of the muffler to fit over the pipe. It still fits a little tight but works great.
