sprockets that hold up

<< < (2/3) > >>

Polar-Bus:
More importantly than "which sprockets are the best" is "what chain is the best" IMO..  Ive learned over the years that sprockets wear out because of chain stretch. Chains stretch because you bought a cheap malaysian roller chain, or you bought a decent chain and your lazy on chain maintenance.  I've been running Regina ORN6 gold oring chains for the past 7 years and let me tell ya' they are hands down the toughest chain out there period. You can expect at least triple your sprocket life than what you were prior seeing. Bought my KX500 in '06, replaced the Chain and sprockets at the time i bought the bike, and STILL have them on currently, and only seeing a very slight amount of wear....

I was looking into the supersprox and I see that they have two styles, a black steel one for 40.00 and what looks like a two piece one for 70.00 ( guessing it is aluminum center with steel outer sprocket for weight savings). Are they both equally good for wear?
As for the chain, I have had great luck with the renthal chains on my 250f and 450f so I just went with the strongest one they make. I did notice when I was checking the tensile strength of the different chains that D.I.D. was the strongest by far but I have never used them, good, bad or indifferent I don`t know.

alward25:
I buy the $70 one

Foxx4Beaver:
I got the black $40 to match my black wheel....unless you're looking to add a little "bling", for the 1 1/2-2lbs difference between the two, you'll never notice it on a 500.

ELRUKO:
I had a Renthal chain break on me and it took out the clutch arm...  Since then I have been using the DID VM X ring.  It's just a little below their maximum chain for about $110.  Has that pressed master link, but you can change it out for a conventional one.  Using them on the Kx 500 and KX 450.  Good product.   The Supersprox counter sprocket seems to be good on my 450.  Not worth all the money for Renthals...
