Coolant leak into crankcase
(1/1)
twosmokerider116:
Okay, So I have a coolant leak into the crank case of my 86' Kx500> I changed the water pump seal but where else could the coolant possibly be leaking in from? Its a Lot.
Thanks.

i am sure that the only way coolant can mix with gear oil is past the water pump seal. if you have replaced the seal there are 2 thing i would question. 1st: was the seal put in the right way (easy mistake done it my self). 2nd: what was the condition of the shaft where the seal runs. if the the surface is bad it will ruin the new seal.

I think i put it in right, what mistake did you make?
kxpegger:
If it's in the crank case it might be a head gasket.

Pegger, I think he means the gearbox, if it was a headgasket he would/should know that it is going to smoke white and show a loss in the coolant level. it almost has to be the water pump seal/shaft or both, of course there is the chance the case is cracked in the water pump area but I would find that unlikely.
