Mount an hour meter

Where do you guys mount an hour meter on your 500s?   I bought a 2001 KX 500.  The guy said it had 8 or 9 "rides" on it from a full motor rebuild.  I am not sure if a ride was an all day event or an hour or two at the moto track.   I do know the engine builder so I am not questioning that.. but I want to mount an hour meter to keep track of my time on it.   I am spoiled by my KTM's build in hour meter in the odometer.  :-)

What's the guideline on how many hours before a piston and ring on these bikes?  I am not a desert/dune rider.  Just a slow guy on vet/GP type MX tracks and trail rides. Saw a few posts about it but what's the book say?  (Don't have one yet)

I mounted my hour meter on the side of the frame just ahead of the fuel tank . Fits perfect without drilling any holes and there have been zero issues with it . Easy to read as well .

How did you mount it?  Is there already some sort of bolt there you can reuse?

Motoroost1:
The back of the hour meter had adhesive tape on it . So I just literally stuck it on to the CDI unit . As a safeguard , I wrapped a zip tie around the hour meter and the CDI unit . So far , the adhesive tape has worked perfectly and it has not moved one little bit .

Cool.  Thanks.
